Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) would have breathed a sigh of relief for two reasons. One: They got the wicket of Jos Buttler and two, it was Varun Chakaravarthy who dismissed him, claiming his first wicket of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season.
With this wicket, Chakaravarthy has dismissed Buttler for the seventh time in T20 cricket, a record for him, and the third time in the IPL. This was also Chakaravarthy’s 100th wicket for KKR in the IPL.

In fact, no bowler has dismissed Buttler more times than Chakaravarthy in T20s. Only Bhuvneshwar Kumar has dismissed him as many times as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mystery spinner.

Buttler was looking in excellent touch in this innings, having smashed two sixes and as many fours on his way to a 15-ball 25. However, he put on 38 off 24 for the second wicket with Shubman Gill, which has put GT further in command after a 54-run opening wicket stand.
During KKR’s innings, he became the first Englishman to complete 300 catches in T20 cricket.
Earlier, a superb 79 off 55 from Cameron Green helped KKR to 180. Gujarat Titans (GT) are well on course to chasing this target down and edge into the top four.
