Rashid Khan set to miss one-off India Test due to fitness concerns

Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan, who is playing for the Gujarat Titans in the 19th season of the Indian Premier League, has issued a major statement regarding his international career. Rashid Khan has been struggling with a back injury for the past few years, due to which he was only participating in important limited-overs series. Keeping this in mind, Rashid Khan has now issued a statement indicating that he may miss the one-match Test series against India, to be played in Mullanpur in June after the end of IPL 2026.

In a statement following Gujarat Titans’ one-run win over Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2026 match, Rashid Khan, in response to a question about his back injury, said, “I’m now fully fit after the operation, but the doctor told me that if I don’t want to play cricket, I should continue playing Test cricket. I enjoy ODI cricket, and if I stay away from Test cricket, I can play for Afghanistan for a long time.”

Meanwhile, when Rashid was asked about the one-off Test match against the Indian team after the IPL, he replied, “If I’m playing one Test a year, I’ll have played that in 2025. The doctor initially advised me to stay away from Test cricket, but despite this, I played a Test against Zimbabwe, bowling 54 overs and taking 11 wickets.”

Full focus on ODI World Cup 2027

Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan further stated his decision to step away from Test cricket, saying, “What will I do if I play in the Test match against India and have a back problem? If I’m playing one Test a year, I’m not going to play 100 Test matches. Right now, my entire focus is on preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup, and I don’t want to take any risks with my fitness.”
