IPL 2026 Bulletin: Major Talking Points | April 7, 2026

Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 27 runs

In the 13th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 27 runs, securing a hat-trick of victories. The rain-affected match was played over 11 overs each, with RR batting first and scoring 150/3. Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored for RR with 77*. In reply, MI could only manage 123/9 after battling out all four overs. Due to rain delays, the first ball of the match was bowled at 10:10 PM, resulting in the match being curtailed to 9 overs per side.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 150 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 11 overs. In reply, Mumbai Indians could only manage to score 123 runs for the loss of 9 wickets within their allotted 11 overs. With this win, RR has achieved a hat-trick of victories this season and has climbed to the top of the points table. Meanwhile, MI, currently positioned at the seventh spot, suffered a defeat in their second match.

Rinku bats too low down the order: Sourav Ganguly

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes that the Kolkata Knight Riders should promote vice-captain Rinku Singh up the batting order to alleviate the team’s batting woes in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. The three-time champion Knight Riders have failed to win a single match out of the three they have played in the current season. The solitary point currently in their tally came from a match against the Punjab Kings on Monday that was abandoned due to rain.

Talking at the launch of the third season of the Bengal Pro T20 League, Ganguly remarked, “He (Ajinkya Rahane) is the captain of the Knight Riders, and I feel that Rinku bats too low down the order. He (Rinku) is a far better player than that, and hopefully, the team finds a way to promote him up the batting order.” Rinku took the IPL by storm in 2023, becoming the only batsman in the history of the IPL—or any T20 match—to hit five consecutive sixes in the final over during a match-winning effort against the Gujarat Titans.

I’m trying my best every single time, says Yashasvi Jaiswal

Rajasthan Royals’ star batter Yashasvi Jaiswal batted brilliantly and scored an unbeaten 77 runs in 32 balls and took the team to 150/3 against Mumbai Indians. His innings included 10 fours and 4 sixes. Yashasvi Jaiswal made his intentions clear from the start of the innings. He set the tone of the match by scoring 22 runs in the first over against Deepak Chahar. Even veteran bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult were unable to withstand his aggressive batting.

After the match he said, “I think I had something in my mind because only three over of powerplay. So I was thinking, how can I take down the overs or who I can take down. So I was planning the minute I saw Chahar Bhai is coming. So I was thinking, okay, I can take him. So I was thinking to take him and Bumrah Bhai came in. So I was thinking, okay, maybe Vaibhav can take Bumrah. Then I will try to pick someone else. So I was just keep thinking who can I go and what shots I can play. So I was, I was just quite into the game. (Is it easy to switch between the three formats?) I think it’s not easy, but I’m trying my best every single time when I go into my preparation, I feel like what I can do, how I can improve and make sure that I’m developing different shots.”
