Rwanda batter Fanny Utagushimaninde has become the youngest centurion in Women’s T20I cricket. She brought up her century at the age of 15 years and 223 days on March 20 (Friday) against Nigeria Lagos in the Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament. She is also the first woman to score a century on T20I debut.
Australia’s Karen Rolton previously held the record for the highest individual score on Women’s T20I debut when she slammed 96* against England in Taunton in 2005. As a result, Utagushimaninde has broken a record that stood for over two decades. The teenager finished unbeaten on 111 off just 65 deliveries.
Her world record helped Rwanda post 210/3. In reply, Ghana managed just 88/8 from their 20 overs, with Rwanda winning the game by a massive 122-run margin.
Before Utagushimaninde, Uganda’s Prosscovia Alako was the youngest Women’s T20I centurion when she scored 116 against Mali in Kigali in 2019 at the age of 16 years and 233 days.
Only four batters have scored a century on their Men’s T20I debut, but none have been scored by players from full members. Out of those, two batters – Matthew Spoors (108) and Ravinderpal Singh (101) are from Canada, while Serbia’s Leslie Dunbar (104) and Namibia’s JP Kotze (101*) are the other two.
