Former India spinner Laxman Sivaramkrishnan has taken to social media to announce his retirement from BCCI commentary.
“I am retiring from commentary for BCCI,” he posted on X.
The 60-year-old was unhappy with not being given opportunities by the BCCI, and went on to add that there is more to the story than meets the eye.
“My retirement is nothing great. But a story of tv production unfolds. Soon you will see the bigger picture,” he added.
Sivaramakrishnan made his debut in 1983 and played nine Tests and 16 ODIs for India till 1987. Since the end of his playing days, he has been involved in commentary, often calling the shots in international matches and also in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He mentioned that he was not given an opportunity, even when Ravi Shastri was absent from the commentary panel, when he was the head coach of the Indian team.
“If I have not been used for TOSSES and PRESENTATION for 23 years, and new comers come in do pitch report Tosses Presentation even when Shastri was coaching, what do you think could be the reason,” he wrote.
Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently announced his IPL retirement, was also surprised by Sivaramakrishnan’s decision. “Oh no! Why not this IPL?” Ashwin wrote on X.
