Turmoil in Australian cricket? Pat Cummins shuts down claims over pay disparity

Many cricketers around the world have often rejected the contracts from their national cricket boards and have pursued T20 leagues, which are more lucrative. Hence, certain cricket boards have ensured that their players are paid well enough, thereby not allowing them to take a similar route.

What do the reports say?

According to a report on The Age, the players were unhappy with Cricket Australia’s (CA) latest offer, which would see them earn way less in the Big Bash League (BBL) compared to other tournaments like the SA20 or The Hundred.

Even chief selector George Bailey admitted that there was “tension in the marketplace.” However, Australia captain Pat Cummins has taken to social media to put an end to all such reports, saying everything is made up.

“Everything you’ve written about me in this about SA20 NOC and The Hundred offer is made up,” Cummins wrote on X while replying to the journalist responsible for the report.

Committed to representing Australia

However, Cummins is not in denial of the realities of the global T20 leagues being more lucrative, but reiterates that his players are committed to representing Australia across formats.

“Some of our guys are saying no to half a million pounds for 20 days’ work to go and play those two Test matches against Bangladesh,” Cummins had earlier said.

“At the moment, our guys are so keen to play for Australia that they’re happy to forgo that, but I don’t think we can accept that that is going to be the case forever.”

Many players, including Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, are not part of the white-ball tour of Bangladesh, starting next month, which may have further increased such speculations. However, according to CA, the trio have been rested, with Mitchell Marsh leading the side on the tour in ODIs and T20Is.
