Issy Wong powers England to series-clinching win over Ireland

England chased down 166 in just 23 overs to seal a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series at Derby. England produced a far more convincing all-round performance to beat Ireland by six wickets in the second women’s ODI at Derby on Thursday, sealing the three-match series with a game to spare.

After opting to bowl, England’s attack restricted Ireland to 165 in 47 overs, with Issy Wong producing the standout performance. The seamer claimed a career-best 5 for 33 in 10 overs, including the crucial wicket of Amy Hunter, while Mady Villiers returned 2 for 21 and Tilly Corteen-Coleman took 2 for 32.

VVS Laxman coach of Team India for the Asian Games

VVS Laxman, Director of the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE), will serve as the coach of the Indian men’s team at the Asian Games. The tournamnt is scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, this month. According to the list released by the Ministry of Sports, Sunil Joshi, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and Subhadeep Ghosh will accompany Laxman as support staff. Notably, Laxman had also accompanied the Indian team to the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, where the team won the gold medal.

Gautam Gambhir, the regular coach of the Indian team, will be with the senior squad during this period for the home ODI series against the West Indies. The first match of this series is scheduled for September 27. The cricket competition at the Asian Games begins on September 24, and India will kick off its campaign four days later. Amol Muzumdar will continue as the head coach of the Indian women’s team. He will be accompanied by bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi and fielding coach Munish Bali.

Zimbabwe defeated Namibia by 5 wickets

In the fifth match of the tri-series, Zimbabwe put up a brilliant performance to defeat Namibia by 5 wickets. Batting first, Namibia scored 156 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Zimbabwe chased down the target in 18.1 overs, losing 5 wickets, driven by an aggressive innings from Innocent Kaia.

Zimbabwe got off to a good start while chasing the target of 157 runs. Innocent Kaia batted aggressively from the outset, maintaining pressure on the Namibian bowlers. He played a magnificent innings of 72 runs off just 42 balls, laying the foundation for the team’s victory. Apart from Kaia, Sikandar Raza also played a useful knock of 29 runs. Both batsmen put Zimbabwe in a strong position in the run chase.

Bangladesh Cricket Board doubles player fees in all domestic formats

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Tamim Iqbal on Thursday announced an increase in players’ match fees across all formats of domestic cricket. The board took this step in response to the growing financial insecurity among players due to the postponement of the next season of the Bangladesh Premier League.

With this increase, Bangladesh’s domestic cricketers will now earn between 30 and 35 lakh Bangladeshi taka annually. The BPL, the country’s only franchise-based T20 tournament, has been indefinitely suspended due to massive financial losses, administrative chaos and a strong player boycott.

Tickets for the India-West Indies T20I in Indore will be available online

Ticket prices have been finalised for the T20 International match between India and West Indies to be held at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on October 11. The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) released the ticket rates on Wednesday.

The cheapest ticket for general spectators will cost ₹1,000, while the most expensive pavilion ticket will cost ₹12,500. All match tickets will be available online only. Rates for other ticket categories will also be released.

The MPCA has appointed Zomato as the official online ticketing partner for the match. Tickets will be sold online only. No offline tickets will be available at the stadium counter. Ticket purchase limits have also been set. A maximum of four tickets can be purchased per person. These tickets can be from the same category or from different categories.
