Australia surrenders to South Africa, lost by 67 runs
Australia had a disastrous end to the first ODI against South Africa. Chasing a target of 298, they maintained their grip for a period, but wickets began to fall steadily in the final stages. Australia lost their last four wickets for just 15 runs and were all out for 230. South Africa won the match by 67 runs.
Batting first in the match on Thursday (September 24), South Africa scored 297 for 8 in 50 overs. Matthew Breetzke top-scored for the team with 112 runs. He hit 14 fours and 2 sixes in his 106-ball innings. His brilliant innings helped South Africa post a big total.
Chasing a target of 298, Australia’s Mitchell Marsh scored 60. Matt Renshaw also made 44. Both tried to steady the team, but the other batsmen couldn’t hold on for long. Keshav Maharaj bowled brilliantly for South Africa during this period. He took the most wickets, taking four, conceding just 20 runs in 9.2 overs. He also bowled two maiden overs. Corbin Bosch and Bjorn Fortuin took two wickets each, while Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen took one wicket each.
India A in driving seat as Australia A needs 308 runs to win
India A has tightened its grip on Australia A in the first unofficial Test match being played in Puducherry. If Team India continues its consistent play, it will win. By the end of Thursday’s third day of the match, Australia had scored 55 runs for the loss of two wickets and are still 308 runs behind India’s target of 363.
At stumps, Nathan McSweeney was batting on 23, while captain Peter Handscomb had yet to open his account. Batting first, Team India scored 334 runs and bowled out Australia A for 171. In the second innings, India were all out for 199, setting Australia the massive target.
West Indies Women beat Zimbabwe Women by 99 runs
The West Indies women’s team defeated Zimbabwe by 99 runs in the first ODI. In the match played at Harare Sports Club, West Indies batted first and scored 299 for 6 in 50 overs. In reply, the Zimbabwe team was bowled out for 200 runs in 43.3 overs. Hayley Matthews was named Player of the Match; she played an innings of 182 runs off 156 balls.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews anchored the innings from the start, scoring 182 runs at a strike rate of 116.67. She also set the record for the highest individual score by a West Indies player in an innings, surpassing Stafanie Taylor’s record of 171 runs against Sri Lanka. Her innings included 26 fours and 2 sixes. She shared a 128-run partnership for the first wicket with Rashada Williams. Williams scored 53 runs off 70 balls.
Mohammad Nabi’s son makes international debut
The men’s cricket matches have begun at the Asian Games 2026, where Afghanistan started their campaign with a resounding victory. In the first match of the tournament, the Afghan team displayed a brilliant performance and defeated hosts Japan by a huge margin of 48 runs. This match also marked a historic moment in Afghanistan cricket when Hassan Eisakhil, son of former captain Mohammad Nabi, made his international debut. However, his first match was not memorable and he was out after scoring just 3 runs in 10 balls.
New Zealand coach challenges Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
India’s tour of New Zealand begins on October 22, but a month in advance, the New Zealand coach has challenged Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to perform on fast, bouncy pitches. The Kiwi team’s coach believes Vaibhav is an excellent player who bats in a highly aggressive manner. It will be interesting to see how he fares on New Zealand’s fast and bouncy tracks.
New Zealand coach Walter said, “I would like to see him play on fast, bouncy wickets. I want to see how he adapts, but he is an exciting player. You have seen him dominate the world’s best bowlers in the IPL. I think the challenge is always to see how a player performs in different conditions and, equally, how we bowl to him in our own conditions.”
