Veteran batsman Joe Root’s return as Test captain has also been confirmed. Root is the most capped player in England’s history, having captained the team in 65 Test matches. Under his leadership, England won 27 Test matches, the most by any English captain.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officially announced both important appointments on July 30th. Fleming’s 18-year tenure with the Chennai Super Kings was remarkable, with the team winning a record five IPL titles and reaching the finals 10 times. He also led the Southern Braves to the final of The Hundred.
Irfan Pathan questions the selectors on Auqib Nabi issue
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has questioned the selectors for not including Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi in the Indian team selected for the Test series against Sri Lanka. Nabi was also not part of the team for the only Test match against Afghanistan, although he traveled with the team as a net bowler.
Irfan Pathan said he didn’t understand why the selectors overlooked Auqib Nabi despite his impressive domestic performances. The former India all-rounder argued that the one-off Test match against Afghanistan was the best opportunity to give Nabi a chance to debut, rather than relying on an established bowler like Mohammed Siraj.
“To be honest, I don’t have a logical explanation for Nabi’s omission,” Pathan told Sportstar. “I don’t understand the selection process. Mohammed Siraj is your main bowler. When (Jasprit) Bumrah is not there, Siraj becomes your No. 1 bowler. So, why was there a need to play him in a Test match against Afghanistan that wasn’t even part of the World Test Championship? If domestic performance matters, then why didn’t you reward Auqib? This was the best opportunity to play and test him at that level…”
Albie Morkel appointed as Super Kings’ head coach
Joburg Super Kings, a franchise of South Africa’s T20 league SA20, has made a major announcement ahead of the new season. Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel has been appointed the team’s new head coach.
