Namibia registers historic victory, beat South Africa by 18 runs
The opening match of the T20 tri-series featuring Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe took place between Namibia and South Africa at the Namibia Cricket Ground. Hosts Namibia stunned South Africa by securing an 18-run victory. Even a magnificent half-century by Dewald Brevis could not save South Africa. Namibia had set a target of 164 runs for victory.
South Africa managed to score 145 for 9 in their 20 overs, losing the match by 18 runs. Dewald Brevis was the top scorer for South Africa with an innings of 75 runs. Batting at number three, he hit 4 fours and 5 sixes during his 50-ball knock. Brevis was the sixth wicket to fall; his dismissal effectively took the match out of South Africa’s grasp.
At the time of his dismissal, South Africa needed 31 runs off 12 balls to win, but the lower-order batters failed to score the required runs. For Namibia, captain Ruben Trumpelmann and JJ Smit claimed three wickets each, while captain Erasmus, Jack Brassell, and Max Hingo took one wicket apiece.
‘Poor field placement, Gill still has a lot to learn’, says Mohammad Kaif
Colombo Test match’s draw has triggered former Indian cricket team player Mohammad Kaif to raise several questions about Team India’s strategy and captaincy. Pat Cummins extends his support to Imran Khan
Pat Cummins, captain of the Australian ODI and Test teams, has extended his support to Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and most successful cricket captain. He shared a post on social media stating that he stands with all the former captains from around the world who have spoken up about Imran.
Cummins shared a video from ‘The Grade Cricketer’ on X (formerly Twitter), featuring legendary former cricketer Greg Chappell discussing Imran Khan. In the video, Chappell notes that Imran has been in solitary confinement for the past three years, remarking, “I don’t know how anyone could cope with that. Imran is mentally and physically fit, just like anyone else. I have played a lot of cricket with him.”
Sharing Chappell’s video, Cummins wrote, “I am adding my support to Greg Chappell and other former international captains. I hope the medical examination process, as ordered by the court, is allowed to proceed and that family visits continue. I hope Imran Khan is treated with the respect he deserves.”
Marizanne Kapp criticises CA’s decision to allow Anaya Bangar to play women’s cricket
India’s transgender cricketer Anaya Bangar is in the news these days. Marizanne Kapp questioned Cricket Australia’s decision. BCCI upset with Japan’s preparations for the Asian Games
Japan is set to host the 2026 Asian Games, and Asian nations have already begun their preparations. Men’s and women’s cricket teams are also scheduled to participate. While the BCCI has already announced the Indian squad—to be led by Shreyas Iyer—sources indicate dissatisfaction with the host’s preparations, raising the possibility that a ‘B-team’ might be sent instead of the main squad.
The men’s cricket matches at the Asian Games are scheduled for September 24 to October 3, while the women’s matches will take place from September 17 to 22. However, the BCCI and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) are far from pleased with the arrangements made for the players. According to reports, an observer might be sent to assess the preparations; if the facilities are found to be inadequate, the board could opt to send an Indian ‘B-team’ rather than the primary squad.
