Galle Test match timing changed for the second day
The Sri Lanka tour is crucial for the Indian cricket team, a fact evident from the Galle Test that began on August 15. Team India’s players appear fully prepared for this series, having delivered an outstanding performance on the opening day of the Galle Test. They will now aim to dominate the second day and establish a commanding lead in the match. However, the start time for the second day’s play has been changed, and the reason for this adjustment has been revealed.
Rain interrupted play twice on the first day of the Galle Test, resulting in 17 fewer overs being bowled. To compensate for this lost time, the match will begin 15 minutes earlier on the second day. While play commenced at 10:00 AM on the first day, it will start at 9:45 AM on the second day. A total of 98 overs are scheduled to be bowled on the second day—instead of the usual 90—to make up for the overs lost to rain on day one.
Devdutt Padikkal creates history by scoring his maiden Test century
A two-Test match series between India and Sri Lanka began today. The first Test is being played in Galle. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first. Devdutt Padikkal, who came in at number three, subsequently batted magnificently to score a century, making history by hitting the first hundred of his Test career.
Padikkal began scoring rapidly right from the start, receiving excellent support from KL Rahul at the other end. In the third session, following the tea break, Padikkal reached his century off 134 balls. By playing this century-plus knock on the opening day, he has set India on course for a big total. Devdutt Padikkal has delighted fans by playing a historic innings in just his third career Test match.
Yashasvi Jaiswal sets unique record, follows Sachin’s footsteps
India’s opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal took the field for the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. This is his 30th Test of his career. With this, Jaiswal followed in the footsteps of former Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and established a record that a player can only achieve through luck. In fact, Jaiswal has played all 30 Tests so far at different venues.
Jaiswal made his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023 at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica. He is now playing his 30th Test at the Galle International Stadium. He has never played two Tests at a single venue. A similar record is held by Sachin Tendulkar and Sanjay Manjrekar.
Manjrekar played his first 33 Test matches on different grounds. He is followed by Sachin Tendulkar, who played 32 Tests on different grounds. Jaiswal, who played 30 Tests on different grounds, has reached third place on the list.
Report: Ajit Agarkar to lose his position as Chief Selector

In this position, Laxman could oversee several key matters related to the Indian team, player development, and the Centre of Excellence. Therefore, there are discussions about giving him broader responsibilities than just the Chief Selector.
