There is internal strife within the West Indies cricket team as head coach Daren Sammy and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph are at loggerheads. The West Indies are currently playing a Test series against Pakistan, and the Caribbean team won the first Test by 90 runs. Before the series began, coach Sammy stated that Joseph had made himself unavailable for selection. However, Joseph has now issued a scathing statement, hitting back at coach Sammy.

Alzarri Joseph played in both Test matches against Sri Lanka in June, taking six wickets in both matches. The controversy began when head coach Daren Sammy made new allegations, claiming that Joseph had himself declined selection for the Pakistan series.

While discussing on a show, Alzarri Joseph said, “I had a talk with the coach, I also spoke to the officials of the West Indies Cricket Board and if you have seen the statement of the board, then ‘personal reasons’ have been mentioned. Daren Sammy has been associated with West Indies cricket for a long time and he knows very well what impact such a statement can have.”

Hitting back at the coach, he also said that Daren Sammy was well aware of the message such a statement would send to the people.

Different statements from coach and board

In fact, before the start of the Test series against Pakistan, the West Indies Cricket Board issued a new statement stating that Alzarri Joseph would not play in the series due to personal reasons. However, a day later, in a press conference, head coach Daren Sammy stated that Joseph had himself declined selection in the squad.
