Rohit Sharma ruled out of IPL 2026? Hardik Pandya provides update

Rohit Sharma has been absent from the Mumbai Indians (MI) team since he injured his hamstring during the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 12. He opened the innings for MI in that match, but could not continue beyond the powerplay. MI have played three matches since then and have won just one of those. He once again remains on the sidelines for the crucial match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

As a result, there is uncertainty over his participation for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

What’s the update on Rohit?

During the toss against SRH, MI captain Hardik Pandya said Rohit will take a couple of games more before he regains full fitness.

“Rohit’s gonna take a couple of more games. He’s been trying, [but] it’s not up to exactly where he would want, so not available for the team,” Hardik said.

Rohit’s potential return, incidentally, could be against RCB on May 10 in Raipur.

In his four innings in IPL 2026, Rohit scored 137 runs at 45.66 to go with an impressive strike rate of 165.06. The five-time champions are going through a rough patch, having won just two of their seven games. As a result, they find themselves in ninth place on the points table.

In the match against SRH, Hardik won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium. A win tonight could potentially take MI to as high as sixth place.
