India will play fearless cricket against Pakistan: Harmanpreet Kaur ahead of Women’s T20 World Cup opener

India may have lost to England in their final warm-up match ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur believes that there were plenty of positives to take away from the game. Chasing 172, wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh played a blinder, smashing 68 off just 36 deliveries, but India fell five runs short.

However, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur says that the team is looking forward to their World Cup opener against Pakistan at Edgbaston in three days. She says that her side will play fearless cricket against them.

“What a way to start it. Pakistan in Birmingham. That is going to be a sensational atmosphere. We are really looking forward to that,” Harmanpreet said after the warm-up match against England.

“Hopefully, we’ll play fearless cricket in our first game.”

‘Everyone got a chance’

While crediting Richa for her performance, the India skipper also said that lack of partnership is what eventually cost India the match. At the same time, she is delighted that everyone in the squad had a good workout.

“I think it’s about partnerships and I think we missed them. Only Richa played a blinder. In T20 cricket, you need a few partnerships in the middle, which we missed today, but it’s good to see how Richa batted,” she said.

“We wanted to give everyone a fair chance before the first game, and I think everybody got one,” she added.

Other than Pakistan, India face the Netherlands, South Africa, Bangladesh and Australia in Group A. India are yet to win the Women’s T20 World Cup. However, they will be quietly confident after lifting the ODI World Cup for the first time last year.
