IND vs WI: India produced a breathtaking batting performance to chase down 406 against West Indies and win the second ODI by eight wickets at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. The victory gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
West Indies had appeared to set up an imposing challenge after posting 405/7 in their 50 overs. John Campbell provided the early impetus with a 68-ball 101, while captain Shai Hope followed with 104 off 94 balls. Amir Jangoo then accelerated spectacularly, smashing 114 from just 77 deliveries. The three centuries made it only the sixth occasion in ODI history that a team had three centurions in the same innings.
Gill and Rohit turn daunting chase into a run-fest
India’s response was even more emphatic. Shubman Gill produced a sensational unbeaten 223 off 133 balls, combining 24 fours and seven sixes in an innings that completely overwhelmed the West Indies attack. Rohit Sharma complemented him brilliantly, striking a rapid 101 off 75 deliveries as the pair added 255 for the opening wicket.
Rohit fell after reaching his century, but Gill continued his assault. Ruturaj Gaikwad, promoted into the middle order, remained unbeaten on 31 as India reached 406/2 in just 43.3 overs, leaving 39 deliveries unused.

The result marked India’s second-highest successful chase in ODI history and the second time an ODI side had chased a target above 400. West Indies’ extraordinary batting effort was ultimately overshadowed by an even more remarkable Indian response, with Gill’s double century providing the defining moment of a remarkable run-fest.
