IND vs WI: Shai Hope’s ton, Keemo Paul’s five wickets help West Indies to 24-run win over India

IND vs WI: West Indies produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat India by 24 runs in the fourth T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, October 14. Captain Shai Hope struck a magnificent unbeaten century before Keemo Paul dismantled India’s batting line-up to level the five-match series 2-2.

Hope and Rutherford power West Indies to 247

Asked to bat first, West Indies made full use of the batting-friendly conditions, racing to 79/1 in the powerplay. Hope dominated the innings with an explosive 102 not out off 50 balls, striking four fours and nine sixes.

Shimron Hetmyer added 33 off 12 deliveries, while Sherfane Rutherford provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 49 off 26 balls. The visitors finished on a formidable 247/3. India’s bowlers struggled to contain the Caribbean batters, with Mayank Yadav and Arshdeep Singh conceding 52 runs each in their four overs.

Samson’s blitz goes in vain as Paul strikes

Chasing 248, India received a spectacular start from Sanju Samson, who smashed 56 off just 23 balls, including six fours and four sixes. However, Keemo Paul dismissed Samson and Ishan Kishan early, putting the hosts under pressure. Abhishek Sharma contributed 29, but India’s chase lost momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals. Tilak Varma scored 43 off 25 balls, while Nitish Kumar Reddy made 41, and their 70-run partnership briefly revived India’s hopes.

Paul, however, returned to break the partnership and claimed five wickets for 41 runs, including the scalps of Reddy, Prince Yadav and Axar Patel. India were eventually bowled out for 223 in 19.3 overs, falling 24 runs short. Hope’s magnificent century and Paul’s match-winning spell levelled the series at 2-2, setting up a decisive fifth T20I.

Brief Scores: West Indies 247/3 (Shai Hope 102, Sherfane Rutherford 49, Shimron Hetmyer 33; Arshdeep Singh 1/52, Mayank Yadav 0/52) beat India 223 all out in 19.3 overs (Sanju Samson 56, Tilak Varma 43, Nitish Kumar Reddy 41; Keemo Paul 5/41) by 24 runs
