IND vs SL: Led by left-arm spinner Manav Suthar (4/76) and experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (3/57), India bundled out Sri Lanka for 284 on the third day of the first Test of the two-match series on Monday. India thus took a huge lead of 178 runs in the first innings. As soon as Sri Lanka’s innings ended, it started raining and then the day’s play was declared over. For India, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav got one wicket each.
Indian spinners stole the show on the third day
Sri Lankan batsmen struggled a lot against the Indian spinners and the team lost five wickets for 90 runs. Sonal Dinusha played a brilliant century innings. She scored 100 runs in 168 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. Dinusha, who scored the first century of his career in his fourth Test, rescued the team from a bad start by making a partnership of 146 runs for the sixth wicket with Niroshan Dickwella (80). Dickwella, who was returning to the team after a long time, hit seven fours in his 115-ball innings.
Jadeja’s entry into the 350-wicket club was one of the most special moments of the day. With the dismissal of Keshara Nuwantha, Jadeja reached 350 wickets in Test cricket, becoming the fifth Indian bowler to reach this milestone. Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev, and Harbhajan Singh have all achieved this feat. Furthermore, Jadeja also entered another very special club. He became only the fourth player in the world to score more than 4,000 Test runs and take more than 350 wickets. Previously, Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, and Daniel Vettori had achieved this feat.
Earlier in the day, India’s first innings was bundled out for 462. India could add only two runs to yesterday’s score. India lost its last wicket in the form of Krishna within just four balls. Devdutt Padikkal scored 167 runs for India while KL Rahul scored 82 runs. Lower down the order, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel scored 51 runs. For Sri Lanka, Prabhat Jayasuriya took 4 wickets while Keshara Nuwantha took 3 wickets.
