Harmanpreet Kaur-led India announce squad for Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

India Women’s cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to be held from June 12 across England and Wales, has been announced. India team stands at an interesting juncture where their primary task is to translate their ODI dominance into the shortest format. After winning the Women’s ODI World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur and her side will hope for another historic triumph.

24-year-old pacer Nandini Sharma has received her maiden call-up to the side after a stellar performance in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), where she picked up 17 wickets for Delhi Capitals (DC). However, there is no place for the trio of Anushka Sharma, Uma Chetry and Kashvee Gautam.

India to take on Pakistan in T20 WC opener

The tournament will start with the hosts England taking on Sri Lanka at Edgbaston. The final is set for July 5 at the Lord’s in London, while the semifinals will be played at the Oval. India’s campaign in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will begin with a high-voltage clash against the arch-rivals Pakistan on June 14 at Edgbaston, followed by a match against the Netherlands on June 17 at Headingley. India will then take on South Africa on June 21 and Bangladesh on June 25, at the Old Trafford in Manchester, and move on to their last group match against Australia on June 28 at Lord’s.

This is going to be a major challenge for the team management and selection committee following India’s latest 4-1 series defeat to South Africa. The result exposed a few gaps that was the primary concerns for the BCCI while finalizing the squad. India Women failed to make it to the semifinals in the last T20 World Cup in 2024 and their performance in T20 reflected inconsistency in recent years.

Ahead of the World Cup, India will get a few opportunities to work on the shortcomings during the three-match series against England starting on May 28. The series, concluding on June 2, is a great platform for the Indian side to assess conditions and fine-tune team combinations.
