IND vs WI: West Indies pull off stunning six-wicket win over India in 2nd T20I

IND vs WI: West Indies produced a sensational batting performance to defeat India by six wickets in the second T20I at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday, October 9, 2026. Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford starred in a remarkable run chase as the visitors overhauled India’s imposing total of 249/5 in just 18.3 overs, levelling the five-match series 1-1.

India had put up a formidable score after being asked to bat first, with Sanju Samson leading the charge with a blistering 82. However, the West Indies batters responded with extraordinary aggression to complete a memorable victory, reaching 252/4 and leaving the hosts searching for answers with the ball.

Samson, Iyer and Tilak Power India to 249/5

Samson delivered a commanding innings of 82 off 41 balls, smashing nine fours and four sixes. After Abhishek Sharma fell for 20, Samson joined forces with Ishan Kishan to put India firmly in control. Kishan contributed a rapid 43 off 22 deliveries, and their 97-run partnership laid the foundation for a huge total.

Roston Chase struck back for the visitors, claiming three wickets to interrupt India’s momentum. Shivam Dube managed only seven before departing, while Samson’s entertaining knock ended in the 15th over.

Shreyas Iyer then injected fresh momentum with 40 off just 18 balls, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 44 from 18 deliveries. Their explosive partnership helped India finish at 249/5, setting the visitors a challenging target of 250.

Hope and Rutherford Script a Stunning Chase

West Indies lost three wickets early, with Mayank Yadav making important breakthroughs, but Hope refused to let the pressure derail the chase. The skipper smashed an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls, striking six fours and nine sixes to anchor the visitors’ remarkable response.

Rutherford provided equally devastating support, blasting 84 off 37 deliveries, including seven fours and seven sixes. The pair stitched together a match-defining 120-run partnership that shifted the contest decisively in West Indies’ favour.

After Rutherford departed, Romario Shepherd maintained the momentum with a blistering 34 off just 13 balls. Hope continued his assault as West Indies reached 252/4 in 18.3 overs, sealing victory with nine balls to spare.

The result marked a significant comeback for the visitors, who levelled the series after India had won the opening encounter. Despite posting a massive total, the hosts could not contain the West Indies’ power-hitters, leaving the series finely poised ahead of the third T20I.

Brief Scores: India 249/5 (Samson 82, Tilak Varma 44, Kishan 43; Roston Chase 3-24) lost to West Indies 252/4 (Hope 102, Rutherford 84, Shepherd 34) by 6 wickets.
