New Zealand has suffered a major setback ahead of the five-match home T20 series against India. The team’s talented all-rounder, Rachin Ravindra, has been ruled out of the series due to an injury. Rachin sustained a shoulder injury during a promotional shoot last week. According to doctors, it could take six weeks for him to fully recover, resulting in his withdrawal from the T20 series.
Bevon Jacobs replaces Rachin Ravindra
Bevon Jacobs has been included in the Kiwi squad as Ravindra’s replacement. The 24-year-old Jacobs has scored 183 runs—including one half-century—across nine innings in 11 T20 matches. In his last T20 appearance against Bangladesh on May 2, 2026, Jacobs batted in the middle order, scoring an unbeaten 62 off 31 balls and earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award. The series against India presents a crucial opportunity for him to cement his place in the team.
Seven Fast Bowlers in the New Zealand Squad
New Zealand lost to India in the T20 World Cup final earlier this year. The Kiwi squad features seven fast bowlers: Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, and Nathan Smith. Milne, who has claimed 65 wickets in T20 Internationals, last played a T20 match for New Zealand in July of last year.
The T20 series between New Zealand and India begins on October 22. Following the T20s, Team India will also play ODI and Test series there. The five-match ODI series starts on November 4, followed by a two-match Test series beginning on November 19.
