Harry Brook then shifted the momentum decisively. Playing with characteristic aggression, Brook raced to 91 and narrowly missed a well-deserved century. His innings contained a mixture of powerful strokeplay and calculated aggression, allowing England to increase the scoring rate and stretch their advantage.
Dan Lawrence also made an important contribution on his return to the Test side, scoring a valuable 51. His partnership with Brook added another 100 runs and ensured that Pakistan’s bowlers remained under sustained pressure.
Root and Brook power England to commanding lead
Pakistan’s bowling attack struggled for consistency for much of the day, while their fielding also let them down. Dropped opportunities, including chances involving Brook and Cox, proved costly as England converted their advantage into a substantial lead.
Ali Usman was the standout bowler for Pakistan. He claimed his maiden Test five-wicket haul, finishing with 5 for 91, including a late burst that gave Pakistan some encouragement. His three wickets for three runs near the close prevented England from finishing the day with an even stronger position.
England, nevertheless, ended the day comfortably ahead at 366 for 8. With a 195-run lead and two wickets still in hand, the hosts are now in an excellent position to dictate the remainder of the Test. Pakistan face the difficult task of taking the final two wickets quickly before attempting to repair the damage caused by England’s dominant second day.
