IND vs SL: Team India 6 wickets away from victory in Galle, Sri Lanka need 288 runs on final day

IND vs SL: The Indian team is close to victory in the first match of the two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka. At the end of the fourth day of the Test in Galle, Sri Lanka were 84 for four in their second innings. They still need 288 runs to win, while India need six wickets to win.

Chasing a target of 372, Sri Lanka got off to a disastrous start in their second innings. Nishan Madushka was dismissed for just 6 runs. Debutant Pasindu Suriyabandara then departed on the very first ball. Kamindu Mendis also departed for 2 runs, while Lahiru Udara made 16.

Sri Lanka lost four wickets for just 47 runs, leaving the team in trouble. Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha then steadied the innings. They held the team accountable until the end of the day’s play.

India scored 193 runs in the second innings

Earlier, India scored 193 runs in their second innings. The team got off to a poor start, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal without scoring. KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal then added 65 runs for the second wicket. Rahul was dismissed for 35, while Shubman Gill managed just 8 runs.

Devdutt Padikkal missed out on a half-century, scoring 44 runs. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant batted brilliantly, scoring 66 runs. He hit 8 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. Dhruv Jurel scored 7, Ravindra Jadeja 9, and Manav Suthar 9. For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando took 4 wickets, while Prabhat Jayasuriya took 3 wickets.

India took a lead of 178 runs in the first innings

India won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first innings, the Indian team posted a mammoth total of 462 runs. Devdutt Padikkal scored a brilliant 167, while KL Rahul made 82.

In reply, Sri Lanka ‘s first innings was bundled out for 284, giving India a 178-run lead based on their first innings. India then scored 193 runs in the second innings, setting Sri Lanka a target of 372. The Indian team is now just six wickets away from winning the Test.

Brief scores: India 462 & 193 (Rishabh Pant 66, Devdutt Padikkal 44; Asitha Fernando 4-31, Prabath Jayasuriya 3-43) lead Sri Lanka 284 & 84/4 (Dhananjaya de Silva 31, Sonal Dinusha 25; Manav Suthar 2-30, Mohammed Siraj 1-11) by 287 runs.
