Rohit Sharma achieves a major feat in ODI cricket
Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has added another major milestone to his career, becoming the seventh-highest run-scorer in ODI history. The former Indian captain achieved this feat during the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Rohit surpassed Pakistani legend Inzamam-ul-Haq as soon as he scored the ninth run of his innings and climbed up the all-time list of ODI runs.
He is India’s third-highest run-scorer in this format. Rohit Sharma (11,757 runs) surpassed Inzamam, who scored 11,739 runs for Pakistan and the ICC between 1991 and 2007. Rohit’s next target is Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene, who has scored 12,650 runs in 448 matches at an average of 33.37. Rohit, who made his debut in 2007, averages 48.58 in 287 ODIs.
Virat Kohli becomes highest run-scorer in England
Virat Kohli played a brilliant innings in the second ODI against England in Cardiff, scoring 65 runs in 66 balls with the help of 8 fours, making him the highest run-scorer for India on English soil. Kohli broke the record held by former legendary batsman Rahul Dravid (2645 runs) . King Kohli (2646 runs) has reached the top spot on the list.
Rahul Dravid has now slipped to second place on the list of most runs scored by Indian batsmen in England. Moving on, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is at number three (2626 runs), followed by Rohit Sharma (2308 runs), Sourav Ganguly (1949 runs) and MS Dhoni (1869 runs).
Gurnoor Brar guilty of ICC Code of Conduct breach
Indian fast bowler Gurnur Brar has come under the scanner of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his aggressive behavior during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston. The ICC confirmed that Brar had breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. He has been officially warned and given one demerit point, although he has not been fined. A Level 1 offence is defined as a player throwing the ball towards another player in an unfair or dangerous manner during a match.
The incident occurred in the eighth over of England’s innings, when Ben Duckett had taken an aggressive stance against the young fast bowler. Following Jasprit Bumrah’s economical opening spell, England’s openers targeted Brar. Duckett had already hit a four and a six in that over. Then, when Duckett defended a delivery, Brar picked up the ball and threw it at him, towards the stumps. Although the ball didn’t hit Duckett, the incident escalated tensions on the field.
Ben Stokes to resume his duties as a Durham cricketer
About three weeks after retiring from international cricket, Ben Stokes will now feature for his county club, Durham, in the 50-over Metro Bank Cup. The 35-year-old Stokes could play his first match against Derbyshire on Tuesday, July 21. Subject to fitness, he will be available for all remaining matches of the Metro Bank Cup and the County Championship season.
Durham head coach Ryan Campbell said regarding Stokes, “He has retired from international cricket but has resumed his duties as a Durham cricketer. He has started training and is looking to play all the matches for us. Obviously, we have to manage his workload. He has played a lot of cricket, so we need to look after him. But for now, he is back, and we are thrilled to have him in the team.”
