IND vs IRE: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did not get a chance to debut in the first T20 match against Ireland. There was a lot of buzz surrounding him, and it seemed he would get a chance to debut against Ireland. But Sooryavanshi was not included in the playing XI. Shreyas Iyer is captaining Team India in T20 cricket for the first time. This is his first match as the captain.
Had Vaibhav made his debut in this match, he would have become the youngest player to play in international cricket. Sooryavanshi had the opportunity to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of being the youngest player to debut, but that did not happen. However, he has not been included in the team for now. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will be seen opening the innings for Team India.
Iyer explained the reason for Vaibhav’s exclusion
Vaibhav didn’t get a chance to debut in the match against Ireland. Regarding his omission, Iyer said, “He’s a very good player. However, we have some excellent players in our team who have consistently performed well for India in the last few series. We want to play players who have consistently performed well. I think he will get his chance when the time is right.”
Sooryavanshi caught everyone’s attention with his performance in IPL 2026. He scored 776 runs in the season, with a strike rate of over 237. He was the season’s leading run-scorer, leading to the 15-year-old’s selection in the Indian team. Announcing the squad, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar stated that Sooryavanshi’s performance had convinced the selectors to include him in the squad.
