ENG vs NZ: England humble New Zealand by 115 runs in the Lord’s Test

ENG vs NZ: England defeated New Zealand by 115 runs before lunch on the fourth day of the first cricket Test at Lord’s on Sunday. This is a new and positive start for the England team after the disappointing Ashes defeat in Australia.

New Zealand began their second innings at 55 for five, needing 254 to win. They lost their remaining five wickets within the first two hours of play, and were all out for 138. England fast bowler Gus Atkinson was the best bowler, taking five wickets for 30 runs.

On a bowler-friendly pitch, 24 batsmen were bowled or trapped leg before wicket. The spinners didn’t get a single ball in the match. Glenn Phillips was New Zealand’s top scorer with an unbeaten 44. England made 140 in the first innings and 226 in the second. New Zealand were bowled out for 113 in the first innings.

Ollie Robinson became the player of the match

After a 1-4 defeat to Australia on the Ashes tour, this first Test series of the summer is being considered a fresh start for England. Opener Emilio Gay, making his Test debut for captain Ben Stokes’ team, was the highest-scoring batsman of both teams with 57 runs. Ollie Robinson, who made his first appearance since 2024, took seven wickets in the match (five for 39 and two for 38). He was also named Player of the Match. The second Test of the three-match series begins on June 17 at The Oval in London.

Following New Zealand’s defeat, the World Test Championship 2025-27 points table has changed. New Zealand has slipped from second to fourth place. South Africa has regained the second spot. Sri Lanka is in third place, while Australia remains at the top. Bangladesh is in fifth place, India is in sixth place, and England is in seventh place. Pakistan is in eighth place, and the West Indies is in ninth place.
