It has been a historic couple of days in women’s cricket. On May 30 (Saturday), Scotland Women beat Bangladesh Women for the first time ever in T20 Internationals (T20I). However, Bangladesh suffered another shock the following day as the Netherlands Women shocked them with an eight-run win. Both historic matches took place at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh.

This was the Netherlands’ fourth match in the format against Bangladesh, losing the previous three, including one in the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier in Kathmandu. Scotland, on the other hand, have had to wait a bit longer to register a win over Bangladesh. They had lost their previous six encounters to the Asian side.
How it all transpired
In Match 3 of the tri-series, Bangladesh won the toss and put the Netherlands in to bat. The Netherlands rode on a superb half-century by Heather Siegers (57) and put on 57 for the first wicket with Phebe Molkenboer (29) to set the tone. Sterre Kallis (28), Babette de Leede (16) and Robine Rijke (18*) too chipped in with crucial runs to help the Dutch to a formidable 162/5.

In reply, Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana threatened to take the game away with 77 off 51, but with lack of support from the other end, the Netherlands managed to get home. Siegers played a vital role with the ball as well, finishing with 3/39, while her sister Silver chipped in with 2/24.
At the Women’s T20 World Cup, the Netherlands and Bangladesh have been placed in the same group and will take on each other on June 14 at Edgbaston.
The Netherlands will be in action next in the tri-series against Scotland on June 3. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will take on Scotland on June 2.
