What excites me most is the balance: Sophie Molineux
Sophie Molineux is preparing to lead Australia for the first time in an ICC tournament at the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Australia’s squad for the tournament features a blend of experience and youth. Molineux praised how aligned the players are when it comes to the final ambition of lifting the trophy on July 5 at Lord’s.
“If we prepare well, adapt quickly, and play our style of cricket, we’ll give ourselves the best chance. There is belief in the group and what excites me most is the balance we have,” Sophie Molineux told the ICC. She added, “I am spending more time thinking about how to create the right environment for others, making sure communication is strong, that players feel supported, and that we are aligned on how we want to play. It has been a shift, but a really enjoyable one.”

Australia women coach signs contract extension until June 2029
Ahead of the T20 World Cup Australia women coach’s tenure has been extended until June 2029. Shelly Nitschke took over from Matthew Mott after the 2022 ODI World Cup win and guided Australia to the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold and the 2023 T20 World Cup. Despite not making to the final of either of the last two global events, Nitschke earned a three-year extension.
“It’s a privilege to continue coaching this team and working with such an outstanding group of players and staff,” Nitschke said. ”We’ve achieved a great deal together, but there’s also enormous motivation around what this group can accomplish in the years ahead.”
