In the 54th match of the season against Mumbai Indians (MI), Bhuvi created history, a feat that has only happened for the second time in the tournament’s 19-year history. He has not just created a record, but a mega-record. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took four wickets against Mumbai Indians, conceding just 23 runs in his four overs, with an economy rate of 5.80.
Bhuvi creates history against MI
Bhuvneshwar Kumar became only the second bowler in IPL history to take six three-wicket hauls in a single season. Harshal Patel previously achieved this feat in 2021. It’s worth noting that Bhuvneshwar Kumar has a perfect opportunity to break Harshal’s record, after he shone for RCB against Mumbai Indians in their 11th league match today. The team has three more matches to play, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can break Harshal’s record only once with a three-wicket haul.
Bhuvi regained the Purple Cap with his four-wicket haul against Mumbai. He has now taken 21 wickets in 11 innings across 11 matches at an average of 15.28, with a best of 4/23 and an economy rate of 7.46. Speaking of Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s IPL career, he has played 201 matches in the tournament so far. Bowling in these 201 innings, he has taken 219 wickets at an average of 26.17, with a best of 5/19. It’s worth noting that Bhuvi has twice taken five-wicket hauls, with an economy rate of 7.67. Bhuvneshwar has been playing in the IPL since 2011.
