IPL 2026 Bulletin: Major Talking Points | May 1, 2026

Delhi Capitals beat RR by 7 wickets

Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets on Friday in the 43rd match of IPL 2026. The match was played at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Delhi defeated Rajasthan by 7 wickets.

Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag won the toss and elected to bat. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals scored 225/6. Captain Riyan Parag missed out on a century, scoring 90 runs off 50 balls. Dhruv Jurel scored 42, and Donovan Ferreira scored an unbeaten 47 off 14 balls. Mitchell Starc, playing his first match of the season, took 3 wickets.

Delhi chased down the target of 226 with five balls to spare. KL Rahul (75) and Pathum Nissanka (62) scored half-centuries. Nitish Rana made 33, while Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 18 and Ashutosh Sharma on 25.

MS Dhoni wants what is best for CSK, says Hussey

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has revealed that former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is recovering from a calf injury and is expected to make a return to the field soon. The 44-year-old Dhoni sustained a calf injury prior to the start of the season, an ailment that has kept him sidelined for three weeks. During his recovery process, significant work has been focused on his running speed between the wickets.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday ahead of the match against Mumbai Indians at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Michael Hussey said, “Hopefully, he will make a comeback as soon as possible. I don’t know if that will be tomorrow or perhaps in the match following that, but his recovery is progressing very well. I know he is ramping up his running speed, and that was perhaps the most challenging aspect. I feel that in terms of skills, we are quite confident regarding his batting and wicketkeeping; the main objective was simply to ensure that he could maintain good running endurance—particularly towards the end of an innings, when he needs to sprint quickly to convert ones into twos. Therefore, as soon as he feels fully confident in his calf, I am certain he will give the green light to play.”

I want five IPL trophies: KL Rahul

In the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals (DC) star opening batsman KL Rahul has once again proven that nothing matters more to him than his team’s victory. Rahul—who recently surpassed Mahendra Singh Dhoni to become one of the highest run-scorers in IPL history—stated unequivocally that winning the trophy holds far greater significance for him than individual records. It is Rahul’s aspiration to emulate ‘Mahi Bhai’ and claim five IPL titles for himself.

During a conversation with JioStar, when asked about breaking Dhoni’s record, KL Rahul responded with great humility. Rahul remarked, “I didn’t even realize when I overtook Mahi Bhai. While individual achievements certainly boost confidence, true happiness will come only when I am able to win as many trophies as Dhoni.” Rahul firmly believes that cricket is a team sport, and ultimately, the championship trophy stands as the greatest achievement of all.
