Shameful news has emerged from Sri Lankan cricket as police have arrested two cricketers from the Sri Lankan Under-19 team, who were staying at a hotel in Colombo. They’re accused of secretly recording women in the hotel bathroom. Since this news broke, people have been pretty vocal, slamming both the team and the board.
Apparently, the videos were shot in the bathroom using their phones. It all happened in the Narahenpita area of Colombo. Women staying at the hotel complained that someone tried to film them while they were bathing. Police looked into it and tracked down these two young cricketers. Now, the Narahenpita police are checking if the boys posted any of those videos online.
Both players released on personal bail
The police caught them, brought them to court, and the judge let them go on bail — 500,000 Sri Lankan rupees. But this is nowhere near over. They have to show up in court again on May 25. Police have also seized their phones to find out if they did anything else like this.
Normally, the cricket board would act fast and suspend players, but right now, Sri Lanka Cricket is caught up in its own drama. The past couple of days, they swapped out their old officials for a new committee, so things are pretty chaotic. That means the board hasn’t officially banned the players yet, but let’s be real—this scandal probably spells the end of their careers.
This isn’t the first time Sri Lankan cricketers have been embroiled in sexual misconduct or controversy. Several prominent names have been in the dock in the past. Former opener Danushka Gunathilaka was arrested on rape charges in Australia during the 2022 T20 World Cup, although he was acquitted the following year.
