Mohammad Nawaz fails drug test, under PCB investigation

Pakistan cricket always seems to be embroiled in controversies for one reason or another. Now, it is facing global embarrassment due to a drugs-related scandal. Specifically, Mohammad Nawaz, the star all-rounder of the Pakistan cricket team, has been tested positive in a drug test. He allegedly committed this reprehensible act during the T20 World Cup held earlier this year in February and March.

According to media reports, Nawaz’s cricket career has suffered a significant blow following his positive drug test result. Consequently, he will be unable to participate in the T20 Blast tournament. The Surrey team has cancelled his contract. He is currently subject to the ICC’s anti-doping protocols.

PCB has initiated the relevant procedural steps

Media reports, citing a spokesperson for the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), stated, “The ICC has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board regarding this matter, and the PCB has initiated the relevant procedural steps. The outcome of this process will be communicated to the ICC today.” According to reports, Nawaz tested positive during a doping test conducted during the T20 World Cup. Nawaz played 7 matches during the T20 World Cup held in Sri Lanka.

Now the question now arises, will Mohammad Nawaz face a ban? At this juncture, it would be premature to speculate. The ICC has refrained from making any comments on the matter for the time being. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen what action will be taken against Nawaz following the conclusion of the PCB’s internal proceedings. It is worth noting that Mohammad Nawaz has played 98 T20 International matches for Pakistan; during this period, he has claimed 101 wickets and scored 911 runs with the bat.
