Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: ICC announces record prize money for mega event

The ICC has announced record prize money for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be played in England and Wales later this year. The overall prize pool has gone up to USD 8,764,615, a 10% rise from the previous edition. In 2024, USD 7,958,077 was shared among the 10 teams. However, for the first time, 12 teams will participate in the tournament.

The winners will walk away with USD 2,340,000, while the runners-up will earn USD 1,170,000. The two semi-finalists will be awarded USD 675,000. All participating teams are guaranteed a sum of USD 247,500, while every win at the group stage will give them an additional USD 31,154.

Speaking about this development, ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said, “The growth of women’s cricket continues to accelerate, and the expansion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to 12 teams, combined with a record prize pool, underlines our commitment to building a stronger, more competitive global game.

“The continued rise of women’s cricket through increased investment and opportunity reflects the growing influence and impact of female athletes on the global stage. With that same momentum building across every aspect of women’s cricket, this event is shaping up to not only set a host of new attendance and viewing records in the sports and media ecosystems but also leave a lasting impact on the wider socio-cultural landscape across the world.”

When will Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 begin?

The 12-team event will begin on June 12 with hosts England taking on Sri Lanka at Edgbaston. Defending champions New Zealand get their campaign underway against West Indies on June 13. India, on the other hand, begin their quest to win their maiden title against Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 14.
