An interesting event unfolded in the game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 12 (Sunday). In the crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 tie RCB romped home to an 18-run win, after putting up 240 on the board. However, the match saw two of India’s stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, go off the field injured.
Kohli, who mashed 50 off 38 and put on 120 for the first wicket with Phil Salt, did not take the field during the chase. It is believed that the batting great had sustained an ankle injury. At the post-match presentation, skipper Rajat Patidar did not express any concerns over Kohli’s injury. “I don’t know yet, but I think he, I feel that he’s okay right now,” he said.
Rohit, on the other hand, came out to open the innings with Ryan Rickelton, but in the sixth over, after the team physios attended to him, he decided to retire hurt. Rohit was seen limping during the chase, and it is understood that he has sustained a hamstring injury.
Will the duo miss the next match?
RCB have a short turnaround time as they face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next match on April 15 (Wednesday) in Bengaluru. MI, on the other hand, take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at home the following day on April 16 (Thursday) at home.
There is no update on the extent of Kohli and Rohit’s injuries yet, and whether they will miss any action in IPL 2026. But both players are certainly facing a race against time to be fit for the next match. It may not be surprising if their teams decide to use them as impact subs, which will allow them to just bat and not field.
