The Bangladesh Cricket Board has a new president. Former cricketer and Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer, Tamim Iqbal, has taken over the reins of the BCB. The Bangladesh government dismissed Aminul Islam from the post, and now Tamim Iqbal will work for the betterment of Bangladesh cricket. Aminul Islam’s removal follows the recommendation of a five-member inquiry committee. Recently, under his leadership, Bangladesh cricket suffered significant losses. The Bangladesh cricket team was expelled from the 2026 T20 World Cup by the ICC because the BCB refused to send the team to India.

Tamim Iqbal is the youngest president in BCB history
Tamim Iqbal is just 37 years old and is the youngest president in BCB history. Tamim Iqbal will lead an 11-member ad-hoc committee that also includes former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and renowned TV commentator Athar Ali Khan. Other members of the committee are Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Isfahani, Rafiqul Islam, and Faheem Sinha.
Tamim Iqbal was one of the few players who advised the Bangladesh Cricket Board to send the Bangladesh team to the T20 World Cup, but the BCB refused. News of Tamim Iqbal’s appointment as president had already circulated, leading to discussions between the BCB and the BCCI. It is believed that the Indian team may tour Bangladesh in August, which is sure to bring significant financial benefits to the BCB.
Tamim Iqbal is one of the biggest names in Bangladesh cricket history. He scored 5134 runs in 70 Test matches for Bangladesh, including 10 centuries. In ODIs, he amassed 8357 runs, including 14 centuries. In T20Is, Tamim has also scored 1758 runs, including one century and seven half-centuries. He has scored a total of 45 centuries in professional cricket. He holds the record for most runs and centuries for Bangladesh. He set a record by scoring half-centuries in four consecutive matches during the 2012 Asia Cup. Now, this player has the responsibility of taking Bangladesh cricket even further.
