IPL 2026: Hardik Pandya not playing against Delhi Capitals, Surya revealed the reason

IPL 2026: The 8th match of IPL 2026 is currently underway in Delhi, featuring a clash between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Mumbai Indians (MI). In this match, the Mumbai Indians are being led by Suryakumar Yadav, stepping in for their regular captain, Hardik Pandya. Following the toss, Surya revealed that Hardik was not feeling well, which is why he has been ruled out of Saturdays match.

The decision to exclude Hardik from the Mumbai Indians squad was confirmed at the toss as the T20 World Cup-winning captain of India came out to the middle instead of the gutsy all-rounder. Before the start match Surya said, “He’s not well. Doesn’t look good; he wasn’t fit to play today. So just getting into his shoes today.”

Surya helped India secure the T20 World Cup title

Suryakumar, taking over the captaincy in place of Hardik, is being regarded as a strategically sound move for Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav has recently returned after helping India secure the T20 World Cup title. He possesses extensive experience in making decisions on the field while maintaining his composure. Within the Mumbai Indians squad, Surya commands the stature of an elder brother and a mentor. His rapport with young players like Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir could significantly strengthen the team.

In this match, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bowl first. To maintain balance in the Mumbai team, in place of Hardik, the team management has made necessary changes in the playing XI. The biggest challenge for Mumbai will be to compensate for Hardik’s four-over quota and his role of a match finisher.
