In a low-scoring thriller, Afghanistan struggled in the chase against the UAE but thanks to Azmatullah Omarzai, they eventually made it with two balls to spare. The chase of 161, the target set by the UAE saw Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran (53) and Omarzai (40*) winning the match for the side and keeping their hopes for the next round alive.
England posted a formidable 202/7, thanks to a player of the match innings by Will Jacks. In reply, Italy showed enough resistance, put up an incredible fight but could reach 178 before being bowled out in the final over. England comfortably made it to the Super 8.
Sri Lanka beat Australia to secure their Super 8 spot and left the Aussies on the verge of elimination. After a solid opening stand of 104 runs by Mitchell Marsh (54) and Travis Head (56), the Australian batting collapse, triggered by Dushan Hemantha (3/37). Australia were restricted to 181. During the chase Pathum Nissanka smashed 100 of 52* and Kusal Mendis sored 51 to chase down the target with two overs to spare.

Resuming at 249/5, Bengal were bowled out for 328. Sudip Kumar Gharami continued to be the start for his masterful 146. Auqib Nabi proved to be exception even in the semi-final and picked up 5/87. For Jammu and Kashmir, Abdul Samad (82) and captain Paras Dogra (58) proved to be the saviours after Mohammed Shami gave the initial setback as J&K were reeling at 13/3. Jammu and Kashmir ended Day 2 at 198/5, trailing by 130 runs.
Karnataka took the control of the second semi-final, thanks to the skipper Devdutt Padikkal’s brilliant double century (232). He was well-supported by Ravichandran Smaran, who remained unbeaten on 121.
Rashid completes 700-wicket mark in T20 cricket
Rashid Khan became the first bowler to get to the 700-wicket mark in T20 cricket after taking the wicket of Muhammad Arfan in the match against UAE in Delhi in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Rashid had taken his 699th wicket against South Africa last week and then had to wait for 3.2 overs in this match without any success. Eventually he registered the milestone and ended with 1/24 in his four overs.
Bruce wants more cricket between Associates and tier-one nations
Tom Bruce, the Scotland batter, believes that regular exposure to top-tier oppositions is important for the Associates and that would the players apply their skills more effective over sustained periods. However, he acknowledged the time crunch and spoke about the necessity of a more inclusive calendar.
Bruce said. “We’d love to see more cricket, Associate nations against tier-one nations. There’s been a lot of talk around the cricket calendar and what that needs to look like in order to accommodate international cricket, World Cups, franchise cricket, the Olympics is coming in, trying to get more nations playing cricket.”
