T20 World Cup 2026: West Indies book Super 8 ticket with commanding win over Nepal

T20 World Cup 2026: On Sunday, Shai Hope led his team to a dominant win over Nepal, cruising to victory by 9 wickets. Nepal batted first and put up 133 runs in their 20 overs. The West Indies didn’t waste any time chasing it down and they got there in just 15.2 overs. Hope anchored the innings with an unbeaten 61 off 44 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer chipped in with an unbeaten 46. Brandon King added 22. But the real star of the show was Jason Holder. He tore through Nepal’s lineup, taking 4 wickets for just 27 runs in his 4 overs.

Jason Holder stole the show with the ball

Holder towered over everyone and made his height count while bowling. He sent Asif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, Arif Sheikh, and Karan KC back to the pavilion. Nepal couldn’t recover from his onslaught and finished with just 133 and it was nowhere near enough to trouble the West Indies. The win was a breeze, and with this victory the West Indies became the first team to qualify for the Super 8. They sit comfortably at the top of Group C with three wins in a row. England’s trailing in second after winning two out of three. Nepal, after three straight losses, is out of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Nobody really saw the West Indies as favorites before the tournament began, but they’ve sent a clear message now. Three wins in a row, first they beat Scotland by 35 runs, then took down England by 30, and now a 9-wicket win over Nepal.

Both the batsmen and bowlers have stepped up for the West Indies in this Super 8 push. Hetmyer leads the scoring charts with 133 runs. Sherfane Rutherford has been super consistent, scoring 102 runs at an average of 102. Hope has chipped in with 80, including a solid half-century. On the bowling side, Holder leads with seven wickets, followed by Romario Shephard with six, and Gudakesh Motie with four and there is no doubt that this team’s firing on all cylinders.
