Shubman Gill expressed concern over the ‘Impact Player’ rule in IPL

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has expressed concerns over the ‘Impact Player’ rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL). To him, it diminishes the significance of skill and challenge in the game. Gill believes this rule is making the sport one-sided. Indian players have previously raised objections to this rule, including former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, captain Hardik Pandya, and, most recently, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel.

During a meeting of IPL captains held in Mumbai, most captains, including Gill, urged the BCCI to review this rule. The rule was introduced in 2023 and has been extended until at least 2027. Gill remarked, “Personally for me, I don’t think there should be Impact Player. I think cricket in general is an 11-player game, and on wickets where we play, on the grounds that we play, adding an extra batsman is, I think, it takes the skill out of the game”

Rahul Chahar will return to Surrey for the final eight matches

Indian spinner Rahul Chahar is set to return to the England County Championship. Chahar will once again be seen playing county cricket for Surrey in England. He will be part of the team for eight matches in the County Championship. According to a Cricbuzz report, Chahar will play the last eight matches for Surrey in the upcoming season.

Rahul Chahar made his debut for Surrey last September and in that very match, he produced a performance that caught everyone’s attention. He took a total of 10 wickets in that match, including a brilliant spell of 8/51 in the second innings. This also marked the best first-class performance by a Surrey debutant, breaking a 166-year-old record.

Faf Du Plessis praises ‘villain’ Gautam Gambhir

Former South African captain Faf du Plessis has described that Gautam Gambhir has always been depicted as a “villain”. He made this remark in praise of him. Du Plessis stated that his perspective on Gambhir differs significantly from that of players who have played alongside him. He noted that whenever one plays against him, he is invariably perceived as the villain.

“My perspective of Gambhir is obviously very different from the guys who play with him. He’s always the villain in the story when it comes to playing against him, but you respect that,” Du Plessis told JioHotstar. “And that’s the key thing with Gautam Gambhir, he’s so competitive. He does not worry for one second about being liked by anyone. His job as a leader is to set high standards and have accountability within the dressing room.”

Faf du Plessis further observed that Gautam Gambhir has transformed the Kolkata Knight Riders into a formidable force within the Indian Premier League. According to du Plessis, Gambhir sets a high standard and operates on the principle that if you deviate from that standard, he will teach you a lesson.
