T20 World Cup 2026: Sri Lanka utterly dominated the 16th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, crushing Oman by 105 runs which is a mammoth win by any standard. That is their second win of the current tournament, and the way the Lankan played, they made it look easy. In this clash, Oman’s captain won the toss and feeling confident about his team’s ability to chase, decided to bowl first and chase. That move backfired as Sri Lanka hammered out a massive 225 runs.

While chasing, Oman’s batting string fell apart pretty hastily. They just couldn’t get close to that target. Mohammad Nadeem tried to steady the ship with 53 runs and Wasim Ali chipped in with 27, but it wasn’t nearly enough. Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana both grabbed two wickets for Sri Lanka while Dunith Vellalalage, Dushman Hemantha, and Kamindu Mendis each picked up one. Vinayak Shukla and Sufyan Mahmood got run out. By the end, Oman could only manage 120 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs. They never really looked like they were in the game.
Batting first, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis registered 61 runs, Pawan Ratnayake added 60 and captain Dasun Shanaka smashed a rapid 50. He got there in just 19 balls which is now the fastest fifty ever for Sri Lanka in T20 cricket. For Oman, Jithen Ramanandi took two wickets while Jay Odedara and Sufyan Mahmud got one each.

Kusal Mendis did get run out, but that didn’t slow Sri Lanka down. Their batting was just on another level, and their 225 is now the highest total of the tournament. This win, by 105 runs, is now the biggest in T20 World Cup history. No one’s ever won by that much margin before. With performances like this, it’s clear that this World Cup is shaping up to be a wild ride.
