The mood in the Indian camp just took a hit amid the T20 World Cup 2026. According to reports, Abhishek Sharma, Team India’s hard-hitting opener is in the hospital with a stomach infection. His health got bad enough that doctors put him under observation. Naturally, this throws a wrench in India’s plans for the next match.

Abhishek had a high fever and needed a drip to stabilize things. He missed practice at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, where India faces Namibia tomorrow, February 12. With him out, the team suddenly has to rethink who’ll open the batting.
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate gave a quick update. He said, “Washington joined the team yesterday and will train today. Abhi still has some stomach issues, but we hope he’ll be ready for the match in a few days.” So, there’s a bit of hope, but nothing certain.

Last match against the USA, Abhishek got out on his first ball and didn’t return for fielding. Sanju Samson covered for him in the field, and Abhishek didn’t even come out to celebrate the win.
A BCCI source told PTI, “Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are going on to figure out exactly what’s wrong. We don’t know yet if he’ll be discharged today, and honestly, the Namibia game looks unlikely for him right now.” Meanwhile, ten Doeschate confirmed Washington Sundar is with the squad as India prepare for Namibia on February 12.
