Not serious: Gujarat Titans coach gives update on Shubman Gill’s injury

Shubman Gill had to sit out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 4 (Saturday) in Ahmedabad. At the toss, Gujarat Titans (GT) stand-in captain Rashid Khan revealed that Gill was out with a muscle spasm.

Speaking on air during GT’s run-chase, GT assistant coach Parthiv Patel said that the injury to Gill is not that serious, and also hinted that he could be back for their next game against Delhi Capitals (DC), which is scheduled to be played on April 8 (Wednesday).

Injury not serious

“Not really [Injury not serious]. He’s had that neck strain before and had the spasm couple of days back. I am hoping that he should be fit for another game. It doesn’t look that serious. Injury management is not my forte. But I can tell you that he should be fine for another game,” Patel said.

A neck strain had ruled Gill out for a couple of months following the Test series against South Africa last year. However, he made a successful return to the Indian side and also played a key role in India’s lifting the Asia Cup.

However, poor form with the bat saw him dropped from the T20I team and was also omitted from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.

Rashid Khan gives update

“He’s good. Hopefully, he’s gonna be all right for the next game. He just had the muscles spasm, so hopefully he’s gonna be all right soon,” Rashid said after the match.

Chasing 211 after being asked to bowl first, GT eventually fell six runs short thanks to stunning death bowling from Tushar Deshpande and Jofra Archer.

As a result, GT have lost both their IPL 2026 matches so far.
