Ayush Mhatre has started off his second season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) extremely well. He smashed 240 in IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 189. Despite getting out for a duck in the first match of IPL 2026 against Rajasthan Royals (RR), he came good in the second match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Chepauk, smashing 73 off 43, with six fours and five sixes punctuating his innings.
He struck at a strike rate of 169.77, which played a huge role in CSK getting to 209. In doing so, Mhatre became the youngest CSK player to smash a fifty for CSK in the IPL, beating Suresh Raina’s record, who held the record aged 21 years and 148 days.

Raina made No. 3 his own over the years at CSK and Mhatre will hope that he is able to replicate the CSK legend and smash many more such records.
Mhatre is also level with Prithvi Shaw in terms of scoring the most 50-plus scores before turning 19.

After Mhatre Shivam Dube slammed an unbeaten 45 off 27 to give CSK some momentum. Sarfaraz Khan also played a key role with his 32 off 12 to put PBKS on the back foot. CSK will hope to win this game and get off the mark in IPL 2026 after losing their opening match against RR.
