No automatic double checks for DRS referrals
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the IPL teams that there will be no automatic double check during DRS referrals. Specifically, reviews will be limited to the original point of appeal, and any additional checks will only be conducted if the other team has reviewed within the stipulated time.
The BCCI stated that if the bowling team reviews for a caught-behind, the umpires will not subsequently check for a wide. This will only be checked if the batting team opts for a review. BCCI experts said that there will be no automatic check for a high wide. From now on, it will only be reviewed if the batting team opts for a review within the stipulated 15 seconds. The batsman will not be given an additional 15 seconds. BCCI Chief Match Referee Javagal Srinath and Chief Umpire Nitin Menon were addressing the teams during a recent captains’ meeting at the office.
