With Aditya Birla Group’s takeover of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Aryaman Birla is set to be the new chairman of the franchise. Birla, a promising cricketer, was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2018 for INR 30 lakh, but he did not feature in any matches. In fact, he never went on to play in the IPL after that.
Birla played for Madhya Pradesh between 2017 and 2019, scoring 414 runs at 27.60 in nine first-class matches. He played four 50-over matches, scoring 36 runs at 12. He was only 17 when he left Mumbai for Madhya Pradesh to forge a career in cricket.
However, before this had an opportunity to play in England with West Hampstead Cricket Club and the London Schools Cricket Association.
He quit professional cricket in 2019 as he claimed that he was coping with “severe anxiety.”
“It’s been a journey of hard work, perseverance, dedication and immense courage to get to this point in my cricket career. However, I’ve been coping with severe anxiety related to the sport for a while now,” he had said while announcing his intentions to move away from cricket.
He is now getting a second chance at cricket, not on the field but off it, following the Birla group’s USD 1.78 billion takeover of RCB.
