England stars Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell issued “Caution Notice” – Here’s why

England batters Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell avoided serious punishment and were instead issued a caution notice by the Cricket Regulator for their actions in Wellington during an international tour. The duo were accused of a breach, where in they ventured into a nightclub and had an altercation with the bouncer. However, no action will be taken against Josh Tongue, who was the third member of the party.

The incident took place a night befor a One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand – a series which England lost 3-0.

“The Cricket Regulator has now concluded its investigations into the events that took place in Wellington on the night of 31 October and 1 November 2025, prior to the third Men’s One Day International match against New Zealand. As a consequence of those investigations, the Regulator has issued a Caution Notice to Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell in relation to their conduct during that night, which both players accept was in breach of Regulation 3.2 of the Professional Conduct Regulations 2025. No further action is to be taken by the Regulator in relation to Josh Tongue,” a statement from the ECB said.

Brook had initially stated that he acted alone and, as a result, was fined heavily by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The England captain, however, admitted that others were present that evening with him.

“I regret my previous comments and my intention was to protect my team-mates from being drawn into a situation that arose as a result of my own decisions,” Borrk had said in a statement.

“I have apologised and will continue to reflect on the matter. This has been a challenging period in my career, but one from which I am learning.

“I recognise that I have more to learn regarding the off-field responsibilities that come with leadership and captaincy.

“I remain committed to developing in this area and to improving both personally and professionally.”

Brook currently remains banned from participating in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for pulling out last season, while Jacob Bethell is currently with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Brook will play in the County Championship, starting April 3 (Friday), where he will turn up for Yorkshire.
