It has indeed been an interesting day in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In the first match of the day between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI), MI captain Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the match as he was unwell. T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav led the side as a result.
In the second match of the first double-header of IPL 2026, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill was ruled out of the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) due to a muscle spasm. Rashid Khan is leading GT in the match.
“Gill has got bit of a muscle spasm, hopefully he will be back soon. KK [Kumar Kushagra] is playing his first game and look forward to see him play,” Rahid said at the toss. In the previous match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), GIll scored 39 off 27, but could not help his side from succumbing to a three-wicket loss.
Rashid Khan as captain
This is Rashid’s third match as GT captain in the IPL. He has won one and lost one so far. At the franchise level, other than IPL, he has led MI Cape Town to 13 wins in 29 matches in the SA20.
GT have their task cut out in this match as they will have to chase down 211 to register their first win of IPL 2026. Chasing such a huge target without their skipper, Gill, is going to make their task even tougher.
RR will be pleased with their effort with the bat, especially after opting to bat first.
