Pakistan pulled off a sensational one-wicket victory over England in the fourth match of the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series 2026 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, recovering from a precarious position to chase down 242 with 17 balls to spare.
Duckett rescues England after early collapse
Opting to field, Pakistan struck early through Shaheen Shah Afridi, who dismantled England’s top order. England slumped to 19 for three before Ben Duckett steadied the innings with a magnificent 105 off 111 balls, striking 10 fours and two sixes.
Duckett found an able ally in Sam Curran, who contributed 42 off 52 deliveries. Their partnership helped England recover, while Gus Atkinson added an unbeaten 36 off 28 balls towards the end. However, Shaheen’s impressive four-wicket haul, supported by Arafat Minhas and Razaullah with two wickets apiece, restricted England to 241 in 46.4 overs.
Shadab leads Pakistan’s fightback
Pakistan’s chase began disastrously as England’s bowlers kept striking at regular intervals. Saad Baig offered some resistance with an attacking 32 off 22 balls, but the hosts continued to lose wickets and were reduced to 154 for nine, still needing 88 runs with only one wicket remaining. Jamie Overton claimed three wickets, while Liam Dawson picked up two.
With defeat seemingly inevitable, Shadab Khan produced an extraordinary counterattack. Displaying remarkable composure and attacking intent, he found crucial boundaries and kept Pakistan’s hopes alive. Haris Rauf provided determined support at the other end as the pair stitched together an unbeaten 89-run partnership for the tenth wicket.
Shadab remained unbeaten on a magnificent 113 off 96 deliveries, smashing 13 fours and five sixes. Rauf held his nerve as Pakistan reached 243 for nine in 47.1 overs, completing a memorable victory. The triumph underlined Pakistan’s fighting spirit, while England were left to rue their inability to finish the contest despite dominating much of the chase.
Brief scores: England 241 in 46.4 overs (Ben Duckett 105, Sam Curran 42; Shaheen Afridi 4-46, Razuallah 2-38) lost to Pakistan 243/9 in 47.1 overs (Shadab Khan 113*, Saad Baig 32; Jamie Overton 3-43, Liam Dawson 2-30) by one wicket.
