Samson and Dhir power thrilling finish
Electing to bowl first, India struggled to halt the Kiwi top order as Glenn Phillips hammered a magnificent unbeaten 82 off 40 balls, featuring eight fours and three sixes. Supported by Finn Allen’s aggressive 24-ball 45, New Zealand posted a formidable total of 225/4 in their 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav, and Axar Patel claimed a wicket each for India.
In response, India mounted a blistering start through Sanju Samson, who laid a solid foundation by smashing 67 off just 33 balls, including eight boundaries and four sixes. His rapid fifty kept the required run rate well within reach during the powerplay. Despite losing quick wickets in the middle overs to Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell, India stayed in the contest thanks to a composed 42 off 28 balls from Shreyas Iyer and a steady 24 from Axar Patel.
With the game in the balance, Naman Dhir delivered a decisive late blitz, blasting an unbeaten 42 off only 15 deliveries. He held his nerve in the final overs, edging a boundary over the infield in the 20th over to wrap up a thrilling win, as India finished on 230/6 in 19.4 overs.
