Both India and Pakistan have progressed to the semi-final of the Asian Games 2026, after their respective quarter-final matches were washed out. While Pakistan were due to face Hong Kong, India were set to come up against Afghanistan. However, not one ball was bowled in any of those matches due to rains and wet outfields.

As a result, as India and Pakistan are placed higher in the T20I rankings, they progress to the semi-final. India will face the winner of Sri Lanka vs Nepal, while Pakistan will take on the winner between Bangladesh and Malaysia in the semi-final.

This was due to be India and Pakistan’s first match of the tournament. India have had a competitive fixture before the Asian Games, when they took on Japan in a one-off T20I. In a rain-curtailed match, India won the five-over contest by just two runs. Afghanistan and Hong Kong, on the other hand, made it to the quarters after finishing second in their respective groups.

India Women have already clinched gold in the competition, and the men’s side will now look to complete the double. India are the defending champions, as the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side won gold at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, defeating Afghanistan in the final. Shreyas Iyer’s men would look to replicate it in Japan.
