Ahead of the Indian women’s cricket team’s opening fixture in the Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai, head coach Amol Muzumdar addressed to discuss the team’s preparations, mindset, and tactical focus. Navigating the blistering heat in Dubai remains a primary task for the squad, and Muzumdar highlighted the importance of acclimatization it. He emphasized that the team remains focused on adapting swiftly despite the heat
He said, “Definitely it is very hot and humid over here in Dubai, but we’re just focused on getting used to the conditions. Most of the team members have been a part of the T20 World Cup which was played a couple of years back. So we know the conditions here… and yeah, we’re focused on playing some good cricket.”
Missing key players and team depth
Speaking on the absence of star batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, Muzumdar acknowledged her importance while expressing full confidence in the squad’s depth. “Speaking about Jemimah, I have always maintained that she is a clutch player for us. She will definitely be missed… But having said that, her recovery is very important for us… there are some other players who have come into the team and I’m sure they will do well,” he added.

Addressing questions regarding India’s recent T20I form, Muzumdar stressed that the team focuses on growth and aggressive execution rather than past records. The coach said, “We don’t pay too much attention to the form… We know what scope of improvement this team has got. There is a huge scope of improvement as a young side… We’re trying to play some good, aggressive cricket and from here on, set the tone for the next six months.”
Muzumdar also praised the 15-day preparatory camp held at the Center of Excellence, noting that fitness, fielding, and bowling strategy received extra attention. With spinners expected to play a critical role on Dubai pitches, he reiterated that the squad remains focused strictly on taking the tournament “one game at a time.”
